Dr. William Galanter is a clinician, educator and scientist at the University of Illinois Hospital and Health Sciences System. He is the Senior Associate Chief Health Information Officer, Senior Medical Director and Associate professor of Medicine. He chairs the medical centers pharmacy and therapeutics committee. He received his bachelor and master's degrees in Physics from the University of Illinois, Urbana. He received his Ph.D. in Physiology and Biophysics from the University of Illinois at Chicago, where he also received his medical degree. He has appointment in the college of Pharmacy. Through his operational roles, he often does clinical informatics work that is operational, attempts to study these implementations vigorously to help provide more potential general applicability. His research generally centers on pharmaceutical therapeutics and the use of appropriate knowledge and information systems to promote optimal prescribing. He has also spent time on problems lists, especially the interaction of problem lists, medications and indications. He is interested in many other areas of clinical informatics such as data exchange, geographic information systems and CPOE human factors.
