Dr. Vartian received his MD degree from the State University of New York-Downstate Medical School. He went on to complete an internal medicine residency at Cleveland Metropolitan General Hospital and an infectious disease fellowship at the University Hospitals of Cleveland. He is board certified in internal medicine, infectious diseases and clinical informatics and is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians and the Infectious Diseases Society of America. Dr. Vartian holds a Certificate in Medical and Healthcare Management from Rice University, Jones Graduate School of Management and a Master of Science degree in Health Informatics from The University of Texas School of Biomedical Informatics. Dr. Vartian was in the private practice of infectious diseases for 24 years in Houston before joining the Hospital Corporation of America (HCA) in 2008. He served as the Vice President for Medical Affairs at West Houston and Bayshore Medical Centers before becoming the Chief Medical Informatics Officer (CMIO) for the HCA Gulf Coast Division based in Houston. He currently serves as the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) for HCA Houston Healthcare Clear Lake and Mainland hospitals.
